Stygian Tower Update and BGG Con
over 4 years ago – Thu, Nov 21, 2019 at 02:29:29 AM

Just a quick note to say that I got the new batch of plastic parts and am pleased with how tightly the tower fits together.

Also, if you'll be at BGG Con, drop me a note at [email protected] and say 'hi' - maybe we can play something! I'll have The Stygian Society, and also Dealers in Hope, our upcoming deck-building war game set in Europe 200 years in the future, after sea level rise has caused dramatically less territory and diminished resources.

(Note that this may not be the final main game cover art. We have another cover featuring a flooded Paris.)

Production Tower Proof
over 4 years ago – Mon, Nov 04, 2019 at 01:57:26 AM

As mentioned in the last post, the production proof arrived last week. We assembled the tower and snapped some pictures for you!

Tower and Crypt on Game Board
Tower Interior with Cubes
Full Tower, Crypt and Field Board

Note that this tower has a few problems that need to be addressed. It'll hold up the project a little more, but we need to get this right.

  • I'm not sure how this hasn't already been corrected, since the he tower connectors are still too loose. The  tower needs to not come apart after it's been assembled. Fix Difficulty: Easy
  • The crypt is too close to the tower, causing a high percentage of cubes to fall into the crypt. Fix Difficulty: Easy
  • As long as they're making fixes to the tower plastic, I have asked them to remove the tab from the lower ground-level tower connector. It was there originally because all three connectors were identical to save cost. However, they added slots to just the bottom connector so that it fits solidly into the game board. Since that connector is different from the others, we should clean it up and also remove the tab. Difficulty: Easy

So, none of these fixes are hard, and they won't take long to correct.

Until next time!

Production Proofs Arrived!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Oct 23, 2019 at 10:10:48 PM

A big box of production proofs arrived via FedEx from the printer. Since I'm leaving for a family reunion, I didn't have much time other than to open the box and snap a few (badly framed and lit) pictures with my phone. Hopefully, these tide you over until next week when I return!

Project Status - Art Approved + Enemy Figure Samples
over 4 years ago – Fri, Sep 27, 2019 at 03:01:59 AM

The art has all been approved and the factory is busily producing a production proof. The only thing outstanding now is that the plastic tower connectors are still just a little too loose. We really want it to stay together once it's assembled.

Here are a couple of pictures of the enemy figures in the game. The enemy component colors (cubes, cards, figures) are red, yellow, and black. Hence, The Stygian Society comes with 18 enemy figures - six each in red, yellow, and black. The figures are placed on the room cards and tactically represent the different enemies encountered in that room. As the players defeat enemies, the remaining figures are shifted around on the floor. Depending where they end up, they can be affected by different hero skills.

Unless there is more news before then, the next update will include pictures of the production proof components.
